Conclusion

In conclusion, more than 3 dB squeezing in photon number fluctuations was realized using a high-speed LED at liquid nitrogen temperature. The observed noise reduction at 400 KHz is 3.2 dB. This, to our knowledge, is the highest noise reduction ever demonstrated by a LED . At room temperature, the LED can suppress the noise uniformly over a broad frequency range from near dc to 10 MHz. These results show that it is possible to generate highly squeezed light over a broad bandwidth using a LED.

We acknowledge Dr. T. Ohtoshi of Hitachi Central Research Laboratory for supplying us with the LED. This research is supported by a grant-in-aid for scientific research in the priority area of mutual quantum manipulation of radiation field and matter from the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture, and the Research Foundation for Opto-Science and Technology.
